I am really pleased to be able to let you know that my Fluid Frills Scarf crochet pattern is now released in the magazine Simply Crochet I really love this design so it has been very hard to hold my tongue before the issue was released on sale across the UK and digitally on Thursday, 29th December 2023.

Wear it in different ways for different effects

The Fluid Frills Scarf has an unusual shaped motif based design and really adaptable for different occasions and outfits. I could equally see this being worn, made in thick aran yarn with a winter coat or in silk with a fancy wedding outfit. The model is wearing it over a pretty satin trouser and bralette set in the magazine's photos but it could certainly work will under another handmade like a pullover or dress.

The simple stitch repeat and motif method make this a fun project with interesting texture. I was really motivated to work the frill on each one.

Marbling design

My inspiration for this project comes from oil on water marbling that can be applied to paper fabric or other items. I love watching videos of the marbling ink being combed!

I set to work swatching and sketching and a few days later I sent it in to Simply Crochet's next call for design submissions. Can you imagine how excited I was when I got the email to let me know my design had been chosen? There as a little drama when one of the yarns I sent was the wrong shade but we got it all worked out and completed for the deadline.

I really enjoyed working with the lovely shades of the Scheepjes Metropolis sock type yarn and seeing the marble design. I noticed that working wit complementary colours like blue and orange is really successful for me when designing multicolour projects. My Day at the Beach bag pattern, Granny's Yarn Square and Vivid Bauble patterns use complementary colours.

Seeing the final magazine was lovely. The photographs in this issue are so dynamic and the yarns chosen are also used by other designers to form a collection of different items all with a swirling theme.
